frequently asked questions.

What does an evaluation consist of?

Speech and language evaluations are scheduled conveniently at your home and typically consist of standardized assessments, clinical observations, and parent input in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of your child’s communication skills. From there, individualized recommendations regarding the duration, frequency and format of therapy sessions will be made.

What does a treatment session look like?

Treatment sessions differ based upon your child’s unique strengths, interests and challenges. For little ones, treatment is often play-based and skill building is integrated into the activities they are engaged in and motivated by. For older children, treatment includes more structured tasks while engagement is maintained through games and breaks.

How long is speech and language treatment?

Individual treatment sessions are 45-minutes in length. The length of treatment from start to finish varies based upon each child’s unique needs. Discharge is typically recommended when a child is demonstrating age-appropriate skills that are supported by data or assessment tools. Ultimately, the family is able to decide when to discontinue based upon satisfaction with progress made or external factors.

Do I need a doctor's referral or diagnosis to begin?

No! Speech-language pathologists are able to see clients without a doctor’s prescription. However, a prescription may be necessary if billing treatment to your insurance plan.

Do you take insurance?

We are currently a participating provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield.  If you are a member of BCBS, we will work with your child’s pediatrician to submit an insurance claim on your behalf.

Blue Skies Therapies is an out-of-network provider with all other insurance companies, therefore, insurance is not billed directly. If we do not currently participate with your insurance provider, superbills containing necessary documentation and coding may be provided upon request to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

What types of payment do you accept?

We currently accept cash, check and all major credit cards.  In addition, the majority of speech and language therapy services can be paid for using your flexible spending account (FSA) or healthcare savings account (HSA).

Payment is required at the time of service.

How can we get the most out of our child’s therapy sessions?

We believe that success happens when families are involved in a child’s treatment. Some children work best with their parents present, while some remain more focused with their parents outside of the room. Either way, the final 5-10 minutes of each session will include a re-cap with information about your child’s performance and ways to encourage carry over of newly learned skills at home.
